PEMBUATAN ADSORBEN RUMPUT GAJAH (Pennisetum Purpureum) UNTUK MENURUNKAN KADAR LOGAM KADMIUM (Cd) DALAM LIMBAH CAIR
(Prosiding Seminar Nasional Pelestarian Lingkungan, 2019-11-16) Octarya, Zona; Andriani, Yuli
The existence of Cadmium (Cd) metal waste in aquatic environment could impact negative effect to the environment, especially to the human health. Cd metal poisoning could damage the body’s physiological systems, and even death. To solve this problem, wastewater treatment method was needed in accordance with the kind of the waste. Given the dangers posed by heavy metals to organisms and the environment, efforts are needed to reduce the concentration of heavy metal ions in liquid waste by adsorption method using elephant grass as the adsorbent. Elephant grass contained high cellulose that the active group content could attract and bind heavy metals. This research aimed at knowing the capability of elephant grass adsorbent in adsorbing Cd metal based on the variation of adsorbent (0.5; 1.0; 1.5; and 2.0 gram) with batch method. Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry analysis showed that the adsorption capability of elephant grass adsorbent increased as the increase of adsorbent. The efficiency of the highest decline of Cd Metal in Wastewater was 96.63% at 2 g adsorbents. The efficiency of average decline of Cd metal in wastewater was 96.11%.
