The illegal gold mining at the district of Kuantan Singingi resulted the presence of dangerous heavymetalsin liquid waste in the riverof Kuantan Singingi. The aim of this study was to determine the contamination level of mercury and sulfate in Kuantan Singingi river water. Concentration of Hg was determined by using SSA while the concentration of sulfate was calculated by using UV- VISspectrophotometry. The highestconcentrationof Hg(4.066 ppb) was found inthe thirdweek ofsampling timefromstation3, whilethe lowest (1.091 ppb) found inthe firstweek ofsampling timefrom station5. Hglevelsatstation3has passed the limit of Hg contentaccording to Government RuleNo82, 2001(1 ppb). The highest sulfate content was found (25.065 mg/L) in the third weeks ofsampling timefrom station 4 and the lowest (1.948 mg/L) was in the secondweekonstations8.Based onThe Goverment Rule No.82(2001), thelevel of sulfate inall stationswaslower then water quality standard (400ppm).
