    The title of this research is “ SCALE TEST OF VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY OF SELF DEFENSE MECHANISM IN CLASS X STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 5 PEKANBARU ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013 “. This study aims 1). To check the validity of the scale overview of self defense mechanism in class X students of SMA Negeri 5 Pekanbaru Academic Year 2012/2013 to determine. 2). To the level of scale reliability self defense mechanism in class X students of SMA Negeri 5 Pekanbaru Academic Year 2012/2013. The research method used was a descriptive analytical method. Scale collect data using tools a defense mechanism developed by the autors. The population was used in this study as a sample saturated sampel: all members of the population as high as 234 samples. Data analysis techniques used to check the validity of the formula Product Moment with Portable SPSS PASW Statistics 18 find while looking for reliability with Alpha Croanbach formula Portable SPSS PASW Statistics 18. Obtained from the analysis of data 1). Of the 50 point scale defense mechanism there are 48 item that can be said to be valid and invalid 2 items. 2). Reliability scale defense mechanism on students using portable SPSS PASW Statistics 18 ( 0,833 ) are at very reliable. Recommendations for further research that adaptation of the students are able to find items that are for validity and reliability as a meansurement (scale) have been tested for use will investigate.
