    To collect information about students' understanding and skills in mathematics are implemented in the classroom, teachers need to integrate and use multiple techniques suitable and appropriate. Are appropriate techniques to collect information about students' understanding and skills in mathematics?. Testing can be used, but is not the only technique to evaluate and collect information about students' understanding and skills in mathematics. Tests have drawbacks or limitations, to overcome these limitations of assessment and authentic assessment is needed. Assessment is a systematic process to obtain information about studying and learning. Techniques used in authentic assessments include observations and questions, presentations and discussions, projects and investigations, portfolios and journals, interviews, homework, and others. In this paper presented a technique that is a journal that can be used to collect information about students' understanding and skills in mathematics.
