dc.description.abstract | The research was conducted in March to April 2011 in Dumai coastal waters. The purpose of this research was to understand the contents of crude oil in the sediment layers vertically. Field survey method was applied with location of study consisting 7 stations. Sediment samples were taken by using the Gravity Core, in every station a length 12 cm was cut and divided into 5 layers with thickness of 1 cm. Sediment samples obtained from field was analyzed in laboratory by using soxhlet method. The analysis showed that the concentration of crude oil content in the sediment was vertically different and exceeding 100 ppm. The highest content of crude oil found at station 3 layer 5, i.e. 21930.99 ppm and the lowest station 5 layers 4, i.e. 176.05 ppm with an average of 6532.59 ppm. The difference indicated that there was an input of crude oil in the study area, the currents had been contributing to this oil dispersal.
