Abstract
Activated carbon has been successfully made from wood Eucalyptus pellita with different
carbonization time. Eucalyptus pellita wood carbonized conventionally using canned, cut and
sieved to the size of 1-2 mm. Carbon with different carbonization time has been activated
using KOH in ratio mass : KOH 2:1 and irradiated using microwave for 20 minutes at 630
watts. The research result showed carbon with highest percentage of sample KA 1,5 with a
value 76,05% and followed sample KA 2,0 and KA 1,0 with a value 69,84% and 66,36%.
Characterization testing was done to see the surface morphplogy, microstructure and
absorption with using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM),X-Ray Difraction (XRD) and
methylene blue. SEM micrograph data showed morphology and pores activated carbon. XRD
data showed the distance between the lattice (dhkl), the width of the lattice (La) and high of
lattice (Lc) with a value highest Lc KA 1,5 with value dhkl 3,99 nm, La 1,018 and Lc 3,035.
Methylene blue data showed absorption capability and surface area activated carbon
contained in KA 1,5 with a value 98,98 mg/gr.
