Abstract
Making fishing vessels safer is one of the most fundamental measures to improve sea safety. It need fishing vessels
with strong perfomance to encounter extreme condition at sea. Unfortunately, most international legislation to ensure
sea safety relates to vessels larger than 24 meter (m). Vessels under 12 m are not covered by any international
legislation and are very often outside the pale of national regulations as well. Aru Islands is one of the districts in the
province of Maluku which need design of fishing vessels particularly gillnetter to acomodate the needs of fisher in fishing
efforts. The aim of the research is to designed gillnetter with safety and efficient. The methods is optimizing the existing
vessel mainly in stability, power, cost and construction. The 5 GT gillneter's design has the principal dimension as LOA
= 12.00 m, LPP = 10:50 m, BWL = 2.30 m, H = 1.40 m, T = 1.20 m, Cb = 0.63 and Vs = 9 knots. Stability criterion and
others comply safety international regulation.
