| dc.description.abstract | National development process which is underway to bring changes in many areas of public life, including the lives of rural communities. One of the groups in question are ninik mamak who is the informal leader who holds the honorary title and respected and have an influence in public life Pangean particular district. Research objectives are as follows: (1) to determine the role ninik mamak at subdistricts Pangean Singingi Kuantan district. (2) to determine what factors are making a shift in the role of ninik mamak at subdistricts Pangean Singingi Kuantan district. (3) to determine the form of socio-economic shift towards the role ninik mamak at subdistricts Pangean Singingi Kuantan district. Methods of historical research methods or literature that is biographical research, which uses data collection and a description of the shifting role ninik mamak. The results of this study. (A) mamak ninik normative role in the middle of the island villages namely: (1) to guide and maintain the nephew (a) education nephew (b) marital problems nephew (c) issue needs nephew (2) maintain legacy (a) during the controversy (b) as a mediator between the governm ent and nephews.
