Abstract

The researchstudied the effect of variations in chemical activation time toward adsorption rateof activated carbon from Eucalyptus Pellita wood. Eucalyptus Pellita wood used was the inside part of wood which was about 2 cm from the outer portion wood. The first process ofEucalyptus Pellita wood becoming activated carbon was done by the conventional carbonization process for 1.5 hours and continued by the process of chemical activation using KOH activator with variations of activation time 15, 20, 25 hours, and aided by microwave irradiation. Characterization of surface morphology showed that the activation time of 25 hours produced the most pores and supported by the pore surface area of activated carbon of 331.058 m2 / g and the maximum adsorption rate of 89.26 mg / g. The results showed that the chemical activation time variation affects the physical properties of activated carbon made ofEucalyptus Pellitawood.
