Abstract
Scotinophara alegria, a rice black bug is one of the insects that like to slurp rice
plants. These insects slurp rice plants in the vegetative phase and interfere with the
growth of rice plants. This study aimed to determine the character of Scotinophara
alegria in the vegetative phase of rice fields in Tanah Garam Sub-district, Solok City,
West Sumatra. This research used a sampling method using light traps at night.
Characteristics of Scotinophara alegria were observed morphologically using a
microscope. The results showed that at least Scotinophara alegria was found because
they preferred rice plants with the ratoon system. Decreased air temperature and
humidity factors inhibited the activity of Scotinophara alegria. The morphological
characteristics of Scotinophara alegria were the distance between ocelli was 1,84 times
more than the length of the compound eyes, five closed marginal cells on the forewing
character, and letter V-shaped of abdomen tergite X.
